GREEN LIVING
More and more these days, people are talking about the importance of living "green", living more lightly on the land in "sustainable" communities. Living green means living richer and better lives by making better choices. It means living and building in ways that enhance our lives while not limiting future generations from being able to do the same. People thrive in homes and communities sustained by a healthy connection to the land: a connection between the natural and built environments. By making better choices, our lives can become richer.
With this in mind, Madison Partners has announced a vigorous commitment to green building and the Roaring Fork Valley's environment in which they seek to incorporate many elements of green construction as measured by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) in pursuit of LEED (Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design) certification.
Benefits
Green building is a comprehensive approach to design that enhances efficiency in all aspects of a building’s life-cycle. Shadowrock owners will experience reduced operating costs, improved indoor air quality, more comfortable and effective heating and cooling systems and reduced water usage — all without sacrificing any comfort. The systems in the residences have been designed to optimize life-cycle economic performance, which means each home has been designed to maintain and increase in value for years to come. The homes are also designed with the notion of "bringing the outdoors in": bringing natural light into all residences without increased glare.
Innovative ideas
Green building considers all building components during the design phase. It considers the building structure as a whole and examines how its various subsystems work best together to save energy and reduce environmental impact. A building that uses extensive daylighting techniques, for example, will reduce the amount of heat given off by lighting fixtures, thus allowing for a smaller air conditioning system. This whole-building philosophy considers the interrelation of site, energy, materials, indoor air quality, acoustics, and natural resources.
Some of the environmental benefits of sustainable design are improved air and water quality, reduced waste, and the conservation of natural resources and local biodiversity. Shadowrock has been designed with all these benefits in mind. Every aspect of construction is examined to ensure minimal environmental impact. From the raw materials chosen for construction to the positioning of the building on its site, everything is designed to reduce the environmental footprint of the building.
Sustainable construction is not some exotic new way of building, but rather a more conscious and holistic method of thinking through the building process, making all the elements of each home work efficient together to create a better "high performance" building and a better living experience.

The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™ is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings. LEED gives building owners and operators the tools they need to have an immediate and measurable impact on their buildings' performance. LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality. More information on LEED and the US Green Building Council can be found at www.usgbc.org. |
